Tyrifik expects name change to boost career
May Pen City Records artiste Tyrifik, formerly known as Terro Slim, believes that his exciting name change and new sound can help elevate him to the top tier of the dancehall game.
"I had to change my original dancehall name because too much 'Terro' already inna the business, and it just wasn't working for me. So, mi do a rebranding exercise, wheel and come again," he said, noting that he has been getting good feedback on the change.
Over the past few months, the quick-witted singjay has emerged as one of dancehall's fiercest and most talented young artistes because of his unique voice and new-age flow. He has quickly carved out a decent reputation for his silky smooth flow and his standout lyrical mastery.
In dancehall circles, especially in his hometown parish of Clarendon, he has been earning a street rep for singles such as Word Sound A Power and Dancehall Spenders from as early as 2015. He grew up in Porus, Manchester, in challenging circumstances, and during his teenage years, Tyrifik attended Vere Technical High School in Clarendon. but his principal focus was always music.
"There was a lot of hungry days growing up, but music was my best friend, my constant companion on the days when I had to make a long journey to shop for my parents or whenever I was bored," Tyrifik, whose real name is Terrio Archer, said.
After recognising that he had a gift for the craft of being an entertainer, he started to dedicate countless hours towards sharpening his skills. Now, all that hard work may be on the verge of paying off as the singjay's latest new single, Duh Road, is blowing up on local FM radio. The song has also been added to the major street mixtapes hitting the road this summer.
