More than 3,000 persons assessed in St. Mary

More than 3,000 persons have been assessed in the three communities now under quarantine in St. Mary as part of contact tracing for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The quarantined communities in St. Mary are Dover, Enfield and Annotto Bay. They have been placed under quarantine in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19.

Up to the time of being placed under quarantine, 13 persons from St. Mary tested positive for COVID-19. The parish now has 18 confirmed cases.

The quarantine of communities in St. Mary began at 6:00 a.m. on May 7, 2020, and will end at 6:00 a.m. on May 21, 2020, subject to whether additional cases are identified and whether there is a growing outbreak in the area.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton, gave an update on the contact tracing now taking place in St. Mary, during a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister on May 11.

“The teams [for assessment and testing] are active. They’re on the ground. They’re in the communities. The residents in these communities, certainly Dover and Annotto Bay, are very receptive, very cooperative and I want to just recognise and encourage that similar level of cooperation,” the Minister said.

Jamaica now has 507 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with the parish of St. Catherine accounting for the highest number of cases.

Hanover still remains with no confirmed case of COVID-19.
