Fight breaks out after sex mishap

Persons inside the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court were left stunned yesterday after a defendant said that he and his now ex-girlfriend got into a fight shortly after they had sex.

Marvin Dickens told the court that after having intercourse "the condom buss up".

"I see summen on my penis and I ask her 'what is that, what is this?' And her reply is that is me do something wrong. She say me go Back Road and buy sex," he said. Dickens pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding.

However, contrary to Dickens' account of the incident, prosecutors alleged that he slapped the complainant in her face then pushed her into a door jamb, injuring her eyes.

"Did you do anything to her?" Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque asked. Dickens said that after they had sex and the frightening discovery was made, he told the complainant to leave his home when a fight ensued. He said that the complainant hit him in the face twice. "So you stood up and allowed her to box you two times?" the judge pressed.

"Yes, Ma'am," he replied. "So she tek the knife and me say 'How yuh fi draw knife pon me?' and a so comes we start [fight]."

But the complainant refuted Dickens' claim that a knife was drawn and pressed that it was him who slapped her in the face. She said he then stood behind her and pushed her into the door, causing her to lose consciousness. When asked if it was the abrupt end to their lovemaking that caused the fight, the complainant said no.

The senior judge sympathised with the former couple and said that it was an unfortunate chain of events that led them to be brought before the courts.

However, in light of the injuries the complainant sustained, Cole-Montaque asked Dickens if he was willing to compensate the complainant in the sum of $80,000.

He agreed and is expected to begin payment on June 7, when he returns to court to be sentenced.
