PJFL, JFF announce December 7 restart for JPL

November 12, 2025

The Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) and Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) have set a December 7 restart in operations for the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

The JPL was postponed due to the passage of Hurricane and the damage it inflicted to clubs based in western Jamaica.

Among the most impacted was Treasure Beach FC, which is based in Westmoreland where the hurricane made landfall.

The most recent fixture in the JPL was on October 20, during match week nine.

The PFJL announced the decision was made following discussions with the JFF surrounding the viability in restarting the league, and the need for a swift restart.

"This decision follows high-level strategic discussions between the Jamaica Football Federation and PFJL, grounded in a shared commitment to national recovery, community upliftment, and the preservation of football as a unifying cultural force," the PFJL press release read.

"Both entities aligned on the urgent importance of restarting the league in a manner that reflects unity, solidarity, and national resilience after the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa."

Owen Hill, CEO of the PFJL, praised the decision and said it was a sign of the nation's resilience in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

Hill said it was important for the league to restart in a timely manner, and believes in using football as a tool to help bring unity among those who have been impacted.

"At a time when many across Jamaica are rebuilding, the resumption of the league is a powerful reminder of our strength and resilience.

"Football has always been a binding force in our nation, and as we return to play, we do so with a renewed commitment to unity, hope, and national recovery," he continued.

"We stand firmly with our clubs, players, and communities as we rise again, together."

Hill's comments were echoed by Gregory Daley, chairman of JFF Competitions and Regulations.

Daley is pleased to see a timely restart for the league, and said the spirit of Jamaica football 'remains unbroken'.

"Our clubs have endured tremendous hardship following Hurricane Melissa, but the spirit of Jamaican football remains unbroken," Daley said.

"As we restart the JPL, we do so stronger, more determined, and more united in purpose. Football will play a critical role in the healing and rebuilding of our communities."

The PFJL is expected to announce the new schedule of games for the JPL in the coming days.
