Bank on Princess Fianie in Sunday’s Reggae 6 opener

START Sunday's Reggae 6 by banking PRINCESS FIANIE in a pyramid bet, which gets stronger towards the end, especially the base, a knotty three-year-old maiden event at six furlongs with a full field of 16 runners.

Saturday's Reggae 6 should send at least a $10 million single-winner bonus to Sunday, a tough card worth throwing every penny at to start the first post-Hurricane Melissa weekend of racing on a winning note.

The Twilight 6, which features two win-and-you-re-in races for December's US$300,000 Mouttet Mile, the Port Royal Sprint and Jamaica Cup, could also throw a hefty payout.

The Port Royal Sprint should be dominated by two foreigners, Jason DaCosta's DOTHRAKI and Philip Feanny's RIDEALLDAY, who ran a strong second in the Gold Cup behind last year's Mouttet Mile runner-up, LEGACY ISLE.

DOTHRAKI clocked a fast 1:05.4 to win his first race on local soil at five and a half furlongs. The speedy American already qualifies as an overseas entrant in the Mouttet Mile, won last year by FUNCAANDUN sent out by the champion pair of trainer Jason DaCosta and owner Carlton Watson.

Meanwhile, FUNCAANDUN will have to win the Jamaica Cup to make the Mouttet Mile. The American finished sixth in the Gold Cup won by LEGACY ISLE and is yet to beat grade-one runners this season.

MOJITO carries the hopes of local-breds in the Jamaica Cup. The five-year-old's win in the Kenneth Mattis Memorial was not only flashy, an eight-length dismissal of United States-bred UNSPUN, it was also the fastest time clocked at nine furlongs and 25 yards in more than 14 months.

Reporting with 120lb after clocking 1:55.2 with topweight 126lb in the Kenneth Mattis, MOJITO's time bettered FUNCAANDUN's 1:55.3, posted August 2024 when beating Atomica in the grade-one Distinctly Irish Trophy.

Having opted for the Jamaica Cup route instead of the six-furlong Port Royal Sprint, MOJITO's connections have shown their hand by avoiding the speedsters, aiming to use the grey's pace to run slower rivals off their legs at the longer trip.
