JamRockerz place fourth in Women’s CBC Championship
Following five days of competition at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Guyana, Jamaica placed fourth in the FIBA Women's Caribbean Championship (CBC) and narrowly missed out on a spot in the 2026 FIBA CentroBasket Championships.
The US Virgin Islands won the championship title with a perfect record, as Bahamas finished runners-up ahead of Guyana who placed third.
Suriname, who ended the championship without a win, placed fifth.
Jamaica kicked off the tournament in dominant fashion, as they cruised past Suriname 47-86 in dominant fashion.
The JamRockerz controlled the match from tip-off and showed their quality on the court to maintain their lead throughout.
Jamaica raced to a 8-37 lead in the first quarter, before Suriname found their footing in the second quarter with a score of 16-13.
Jamaica took the third quarter 8-23 and saw out the win in the final quarter, despite Suriname outscoring Jamaica 15-13.
The JamRockerz stumbled to back-to-back defeats in their next two games, as they fell 56-88 and 93-43 to the hands of Bahamas and the US Virgin Islands, respectively.
Facing a must-win contest against hosts Guyana on the final day, Jamaica were defeated 74-83 in a hotly-contested game.
In a game which saw the lead change nine times, Jamaica took the first quarter 17-14 but saw their lead reduced to a single point when Guyana won the second quarter 18-20.
The hosts had taken the lead by the end of the third quarter, outshooting Jamaica 24-26, before closing out the win with a 15-23 scoreline in the final quarter.
ALL-STAR FIVE
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the CentroBasket Championships, Jamaica left with something to celebrate as point-guard Tiffany Reynolds was named in the tournament's All-Star Five team.
Reynolds was one of the team's brightest performers as she averaged 17.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, leading the Jamaican team in all three statistics.
The tournament's MVP Anisha George of the US Virgin Islands, the Bahamas' Valerie Nesbitt and the Guyanese pair of Amisha Ramlall and Joy Brown completed the All-Stars Five.
As of the tournament's results, the US Virgin Islands, Bahamas and Guyana will join Mexico, El Salvador, and Nicaragua who have already secured their place in the the CentroBasket Championships.
