Digicel, STAR grant wishes
Several lucky Digicel customers and STAR readers had their Christmas wishes granted after sending a message to the Digicel Wish Upon The STAR text line.
For 24-year old Christal Harriott from Gutters, St Elizabeth, all she needed to get her chicken-rearing business off the ground was her own freezer.
"When I saw the advertisement in the STAR, I decided to give it a try. I never knew it would actually happen," said Harriott. "So when Digicel called me and told me that they were giving me a freezer, I was so happy and thankful. I really appreciate this."
A certified teacher, Harriott noted, "After I graduated, I worked in a temporary job for a while. After that ended, I started raising chickens to help support my family and make a living, but all I needed was a freezer, as I had to be storing the chickens in my aunt's fridge."
Fifty-five-year-old security guard Dezrene Burke's Christmas wish for a new stove was also granted, much to her delight.
"I am so grateful to receive this wonderful gift from Digicel and the STAR," said Burke. "My current stove is old and I've been afraid that it was a fire hazard for a while now. Lathesia Kidd from St. Mary was also surprised when she received the call saying that her Christmas wish for a new bed had been granted.
