Authorities working to repatriate over 200 Indians
The authorities are currently working to repatriate scores of Indians who arrived in Jamaica on Thursday without proper documentation.
India’s High Commissioner to Jamaica Masakui Rungsung says the high commission is working with the Jamaican authorities to secure their repatriation.
The group of more than 200 Indians arrived on a chartered flight, which travelled through Dubai and Egypt, accompanied by German crew members and at least one French national.
“We are in touch with the local authorities for their safe and smooth repatriation,” Rungsung said on Monday.
He did not comment further.
Sources have confirmed that the Indians are currently at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston awaiting flight clearance to depart.
It is not clear if all of the Indians who arrived on Thursday are at the airport.
The Government is yet to issue a statement on the development.
The opposition People's National Party has called for “immediate clarity” from the Government, noting that the chartered flight landed in Jamaica in breach of applicable immigration and customs protocols.
