Alleged August Town don 'Papa' killed by police

An alleged don in the community of August Town, St Andrew, was shot and killed in a reported confrontation with the security forces on Wednesday, officials have confirmed.

He has been identified as Marvin Markland, more popularly known as 'Papa', the reputed leader of the Bottom August Town gang.

Markland was involved in “several high-profile” crimes inside and outside of August Town, according Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, head of the St Andrew Central Police Division, who confirmed the killing.

Nesbeth said a police team was on operation in the community and during a confrontation “regrettably” Markland was shot and injured.

He reportedly died while being treated at hospital.
