JUTC to keep buses running while conditions safe
The Government-owned public transportation companies Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) and Montego Bay Metro will maintain regular operations "as long as conditions are safe to do so," Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has announced.
Jamaica is bracing for Tropical Storm Melissa, which forecasters say could start impacting the island later today.
Vaz said 30 buses have been designated for emergency deployment across depots in Portmore and Spanish Town, St Catherine; Rockfort, Kingston; and Montego Bay, St James.
Each depot has activated an emergency operations committee.
He said JUTC representatives are embedded in national and parish emergency centres to allow for a coordinated response.
All depots, fuel stations, and other assets managed by the JUTC and Montego Bay Metro have been secured.
Service updates for both entities will be shared via social media and public information channels.
