Two killed in Sunday night road crash
A late-night crash has left two people dead after a motor car slammed along the Cooper's Pen main road in Trelawny on Sunday night.
According to preliminary police reports, the fatal collision happened about 9:50 p.m., in the vicinity of the Royalton Hideaway Resort and involved a white Mercedes-Benz motor car.
The driver and one passenger were both killed in the crash. Their identities have not yet been released by the police.
Investigators say early information points to excessive speed, a loss of control of the vehicle, and what appears to be an error of judgment or negligence as possible factors that led to the deadly impact.
The wrecked vehicle was discovered along the busy stretch of road, sending shockwaves through the area as residents gathered at the scene.
The incident has pushed the country's road toll to three deaths so far this year, stemming from two separate crashes.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy are continuing.
