Fake squaddie hunting female teacher arrested and charged
A 27-year-old contractor is now facing charges after allegedly posing as a police officer and showing up at a school in St Catherine looking for a female teacher.
The accused, Alex Murray of Time and Patience district in the parish, was arrested and charged by the Spanish Town police following the bizarre incident.
Reports are that about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, the police received information that a man claiming to be a cop had gone to a school in search of a teacher, raising suspicion among staff.
The police were alerted, but when a team responded, the man had already left the location.
Further information led lawmen to intercept the vehicle he was travelling in.
He was reportedly seen wearing a black polo shirt bearing police insignia and declared himself to be a member of the force.
Investigators say he even claimed to be attached to the now defunct Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime unit (CTOC), insisting that he had left his identification card at home.
He reportedly told officers that they could contact the unit to verify his identity and even provided a regulation number.
However, when questioned further, he was unable to provide key details, raising further suspicion.
Checks later revealed that he was not a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force but a contractor employed to telecommunications company FLOW.
He was subsequently taken into custody.
A search of his home reportedly led to the discovery of clothing typically worn by plainclothes police operatives.
He was later charged following a question-and-answer session on March 17.
Investigations are ongoing.
