Man shot dead after allegedly pointing gun at police
A man was fatally shot after he allegedly pointed a gun at police during a targeted operation in Crescent District, St Catherine, early Monday morning.
The deceased, whose identity is still unknown, is described as being of brown complexion, about 5ft 10in tall, wearing a brown pullover shirt and sporting plaited hair.
According to police reports, at about 5 a.m. lawmen were carrying out a targeted raid in Crescent in search of wanted persons when they entered a premises and heard sounds coming from what appeared to be an abandoned motor vehicle.
The police said checks were made and the man was allegedly found inside the vehicle, where he reportedly pointed a firearm at the officers.
Police opened fire, hitting the man. He reportedly fell while clutching the weapon.
A Hi-Point pistol fitted with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition was allegedly recovered from the scene.
The injured man was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting, in keeping with standard procedure.
