Quarter mile clash! 400m stars storm into semis
The boys 400m is already shaping up to be a thrilling showdown across all classes after top contenders flexed their muscles in the heats at the National Stadium earlier today.
In Class One, Titchfield's Nishawn Walker set the pace with the fastest qualifying time of 47.59 seconds, just edging Jamaica College's Makaelan Woods, who looked smooth in posting 47.60.
Junior Gallimore of Hydel and William Knibb's Jabari Matheson also looked in control, clocking 47.77 and 47.68 respectively to advance comfortably.
In Class Two, Lacovia's Nicholas Jones dipped below the 49 second mark to lead the qualifiers in 48.83. Calabar's Diwayne Sharpe, one of the season's top contenders, advanced with ease in 49.49, while defending champion Jason Pitter of Kingston College took his heat in 49.86.
Calabar's Rajeve Allison, last year's Class Three champion, also made a statement with a strong 49.21 run.
Lacovia continued their dominance in Class Three, with Darrian Francis posting the fastest time of 51.12. He finished ahead of Kingston College's Taariq Gordon, who clocked 51.34, and Jamaica College's Tariq Creary in 51.81.
The semifinals are set for tomorrow, beginning with the Boys Class Three semis at 9:35 am.
